Strange times

UK politics is providing almost as rich soil for the satirist as the White House, but even sober commentators can come up with some fine turns of phrase.

Amidst all the justified Labour excitement, with the Blairites eating lashings of humble pie, a classic line from Channel 4’s Gary Gibbon on confused ministers swept along on the tide of optimism:

It’s almost like they’re trapped in a hippy commune.

And Hugo Rifkind:

Jeremy Corbyn has resoundingly proved wrong all those people who said he couldn’t win an election. Although he seems to have done this by not winning an election.

It’s OK, we can take this.
