Hunyuan yankou https://stephenjones.blog/hunyuan-daoists/
There I was, hoping to publish some thoughts today on our (or at least my) misapprehensions about images of Chan/Zen, I find it’s gonna have to wait a while before I add to the already vast mountain of writings on the topic. So meanwhile, for anyone desperate to be entertained (yeah right), I’ll just remind you of some diverse posts that I’ve been retweeting recently:
- For the anniversary of German reunification, Red love
- Daoists of Hunyuan, supplementing my page on the misleading Zhengyi/Quanzhen dichotomy
- Mahler 6 at this year’s Proms, another post in my Mahler series!
- What is serious music?!
- Ethos, a brilliant Turkish series
- Billie Holiday, a sequel, further enriching my jazz series
- Grimaud graces London again!, highlighting the magical Gesangvoll finale of Beethoven’s piano sonata Op.109, in recordings by Neuhaus, Richter, Backhaus, Gould, and Brendel.
I’m sure that’s more than enough for now…
Thank you for another very informative post. I visited Hengshan during October 1st holidays in 1990. There were no Taoists in uniforms in the temples, just old men taking care of them. We spent a night in a little village half way up the mountain and the folks had many stories about grottoes and Taoist immortals. I wish I took notes back then, too late for that now.
Your blog is such a great resource for anyone interested in folk Taoism, many thanks for sharing your research!
